Achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against nutritional anaemia among pregnant women during 2008-13

The conception and the subsequent weeks afterwards is the time when it is at its most vulnerable period as the expectant mother needs extra nutrients. To meet the requirement of additional nutrients expectant mothers are given nutritional supplements.

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against nutritional anaemia among pregnant women during 2008-2013.

In 2008-09, percentage of achievements was 77.5% across the country, which decreased to 73.0% in 2012-13.
Karnataka, Delhi, Goa and Lakshadweep achieved more than 100% prophylaxis against nutritional anaemia among pregnant women in 2012-13.

The lowest percentage was observed in Jharkhand (35.3%) in 2012-13 and 0% in Lakshadweep in 2008-09 as compared to other states.

Eighteen States Bihar, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Daman & Diu below the National estimate (58.7%) in 2012-13.
