Achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A Deficiency (9th Dose) during 2009-13

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in a achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency (9th Dose) for the children below 5 years during 2009-2013. In 2009-10, percentage of achievements was 53.9% across the country, which increased to 43.6% in 2012-13. Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh achieved more than 100% prophylaxis against blindness in 2012-13. The lowest percentage was observed in Jharkhand (4.3%) in 2012-13 and 1.9% in Lakshadweep in 2009-10 as compared to other states.

Twenty one States Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry are below the National average (43.6%) in 2012-13.
