Achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A Deficiency (5th Dose) during 2008-13

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in a achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency (5th Dose) for the children below 3 years during 2008-2013. In 2008-09, percentage of achievements was 47.9% across the country, which increased to 49.6% in 2012-13. Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh achieved more than 100% prophylaxis against blindness in 2012-13. The lowest percentage was observed in Jharkhand (9.4%) in 2012-13 and 0% in Manipur in 2008-09 as compared to other states.

Eighteen States Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Daman & Diu and Puducherry are below the National average (49.6%) in 2012-13.
