Achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A Deficiency (1st Dose) during 2008-13

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in a achievements of need assessed for prophylaxis against blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency (1st Dose) for the children below 1 year during 2008-2013.

In 2008-09, percentage of achievements was 72.7% across the country, which decreased to 67.7% in 2012-13. Odisha, Goa, Mizoram and Tripura achieved more than 100% prophylaxis against blindness in 2012-13. The lowest percentage was observed in Delhi (31.4%) in 2012-13 and 0% in Lakshadweep in 2008-09 as compared to other states.

Fourteen States Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland, Uttarakhand and Puducherry are below the National average (67.7%) in 2012-13.
