Accidental deaths by Drowning during 2014

The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India was 29903 during 2014. The top 10 states/UTs in terms of accidental deaths by drowning in India during 2014 were: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in Maharashtra was 4822 during 2014, which was 16.13% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during the year. The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in Madhya Pradesh was 4299 during 2014, which was 14.38% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during the year. The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in Karnataka was 2162 during 2014, which was 7.23% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during the year.

The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in Gujarat was 2116 during 2014, which was 7.08% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during the year. The total number of accidental deaths by drowning in Tamil Nadu was 1899 during 2014, which was 6.35% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during the year. In fact, these top 5 states accounted for more than half i.e. 51.17% of the total number of accidental deaths by drowning in India during 2014.
